Rescuing and Relocating a Rattlesnake from an Old Shed
Просмотров 3583 месяца назад
My dad found a canebrake rattlesnake next to his old shed. The average person would kill it, and that would be the wrong thing to do. In this video, I explain why snakes are beneficial and show how we safely relocate a dangerous snake.
Snakes Invade After Florida’s Hurricanes

Herping a Hurricane in the Florida Nature Coast. It's Crazy but extremely fun. Hurricane Debby impacted Florida on August 4 along the Big Bend Nature Coast region, which is my backyard. So, of course, my dad and I headed out as soon as the rains started pouring in, and we were not disappointed snakes everywhere. We found well over 100 snakes.

One whole week of looking for snakes in Louisiana! My dad and I first sat out in southeast Louisiana and made our way west along the coast. Then we headed up to Central Louisiana, where we saw some awesome-looking buttermilk racers. From there, we met up with Zack and herp around New Orleans. 00:00-intro 00:28-campsite Cajun chorus frogs 00:46-Morning time flipping trash 02:02-Plain-bellied ...

What a fun adventure! It was my first time herping in the Arkansas and Mississippi Delta. We found a bunch of cool stuff, including cool-looking rat, snakes, and an awesome milk snake. We found the first snake after leaving the state of Missouri at the Arkansas and Missouri border. After that, Abby and I made our way down to the Delta, spending a day in Arkansas and then hopping over the Missis...

That was an incredible snow event, I was on the boat in Fourchon, almost a foot there. Pensacola and Eglin got it real good.
It was pretty amazing. I never would’ve thought the Gulf Coast would get that much snow.
@@MichaelLDye this was my backyard ----> ruclips.net/video/E-nLNnRv2w0/видео.htmlsi=7NmJ-OaqgGGYeQS7 The pictures I took through the windows on the night of the snowfall looks more menacing and frigid: I was watching it and yet I couldn't believe it.
@ That’s amazing so much Florida snow. I would’ve been tempted to build a snowman.
@ I thought about it, but I built many snowman and snow forts when I spent most of my childhood on Long Island, NY. I really enjoyed watching your walkaround your property and snow experience. I spent the first half of December 2024 a little further south from your location: I couldn't believe the further south we drove the colder the temperature dropped on the thermometer. I think Inverness, Fla hit the freezing. The low temperatures in the Tampa area were a consistent high 30's for nearly a week.
I went hiking in Orange today and literally one of these dudes swiped past my toes 😮💨💀💀💀 i freaked out man
OK I'm over a year late to this party but, judging by the other comments from people whom I respect, I came to the right spot. Excellent message Michael! I love talking reptiles and amphibians to people who don't understand them.
Gets no better than that
😊 whoa that thing is enormous one of the biggest ones I've ever seen
I have a Western Coachwhip and they DO NOT chill out and tend to hold grudges
Bruh I was herping today in Lafayette and walked over a dead wood log pile and dude walked right on a YellowYacket ground nest 😅 got stung literally over 50 times on every arm leg, neck, ear, stomach, they even went in my boots and stung my legs from knees to right on my ankle, 8 hours later my legs still somehow burn still, forgot how Ruthless YJ venom is and how long effects last. Worst part is lol I didn’t find any snakes either :/
"Very carefully" 😂
Would the western variations of rattle snakes in NM be the kind that doesn't like water, would prefer my dry yard and house?
Many thanks for educating!
I have seen more snakes since hurricane Milton than I have in all my years of living here. Mostly the usual black racers, gray rat snakes and red rat snakes, but I saw the first eastern diamondback rattlesnake. While the racers and rat snakes are fairly common, there has just been a lot more of them than usual. We had a lot of areas flooded around here, so they are being pushed out of areas they were living.
Preaching the gospel and doing the Lord's work.
Great video explaining the importance of habitat and diversity of creatures;😎
Protect the habitat!
The day after Helene passed through here, the DNR removed a reall fat four foot eastern diamondback from my daughter's yard, close to the house. later that same day my granddaughter from another daughter found a baby copperhead out near the street when she went to bring the trashcan back. They ARE out there, it's just that they can hide so well that if you don't almost step on them you never see them
They did not Invade, the are Displaced, we have always had snakes, it did not rain snakes like in sharknado
LOL BTW i am a snake herper
the only snake, in that area, i would be worried about, being bitten by... a coral snake not enough people encounter them to waste money on anti venom, they are small, maybe as think as you pinky finger..and are America's relative of the cobra so yeah, watch where you put your hands, and be wary of bright yellow and red
that cottonmouth, with the black tail, was crazy..i mean, a water moccasin, with a timber rattlesnake tail?
Great video!
Absolutely wrong about the cottonmouth. He's going to get someone hurt.
Ok when you said the stories about falling into cotton mouths is not true, you are full of it. When i was young my cousins lived in Southeast Missouri where cotton mouths were abundant. One day in the spring after school some of the boys wanted to go swimming and rushed down to a favorite swimming spot. One boy got undressed before the others and jumped in the water. He surfaced screaming. As the other boys looked he had jumped into a bunch of cotton mouths. They went for help. The boys body was found a little ways down stream with numerous bites on him.
You have no idea what you’re talking about. Yet you talk so much.
Were the Cottonmouths having a tea party? ..I’d be mad if someone crashed my tea party too.
Looks like a heavier set Ted Cruz lololol
Sir, I respect your expertise up to a point. Here’s the point: I have personally seen a water moccasin chase a man. That man is my husband of 47 yrs. We live in Texas and I’ve seen more snakes than a city dweller has a right to. This particular snake was angry at my husband for slapping the top of the water in the pond or stock tank it was living in. My husband was drilling an oil well and they were using the water for that process and they kept seeing snakes. We were in our 20’s and for some reason my hubby thought he’d be cute and show me how pissed off this snake could be. That snake chased my husband around and around that pond for quite awhile until I was screaming for him to stop. I don’t think I visited his workplace after that. I have other instances of this behavior but I’ll leave it at that, since this is the only one I saw with my own eyes.
Ted Cruz got a RUclips channel 😮
I thought the same thing. Why is Ted Cruz talking about snakes in Florida??
@@jeffoff7795 😂😆
The coral snake is extremely venomous snake. Is there a known anti venom?
I grew up herping, had pet king snakes, and I have personally been chased by a cottonmouth in the water. I don't understand the comment of "simply not true". I know what I saw and it wasn't coincidence.
Agree. When my brother got his diver's certificate his instructor told him cottonmouths can't bite under water. I told him, "Think so? You know they eat fish, right"?
Perhaps what you perceived to be happening was really something else?
@@Pinochetsghost no. I specifically said it wasn't a coincidence because I knew someone would jump in here saying "well maybe it wasn't actually attacking you". I know what I saw. Mouth agape, hissing loudly, gliding on top of the water after me, following my movements. I simply don't understand people who can't understand that it happens. I'm not saying cottonmouths are evil and super aggressive, I'm saying sometimes they can be. People that say "no they're never aggressive!" - it's just a weird argument
I have only been a herper for 65 years so maybe in another life a snake will "chase" me. If you grew up herping you may have noticed snakes are not real bright. Piss a coachwhip off and it will "chase" you for a short distance. Others? They are only going from point A to point B and you may be in their way.
Maybe people will finally go away
You think the world should be eliminated of people?
I grew up in Florida and I love the reptiles there. I hate to see that my home town, Sarasota, got all chewed up in the hurricans. If I was there I'd be happy to remove snakes for people and release them in the woods. But I live in Virginia now. I found a beautiful eastern king snake in a crawl space Thursday and got some pictures. My coworkers think/know I'm crazy and not afraid of snakes. They're great to have around.
All snakes are evil, so what if I am wrong. If I see all of them as evil I will avoid them and won’t get bit and survive… with a missing limb. Not many people die from bee stings but I still don’t want to get stung.
I did not die from a wasp sting, but I felt like microwaved. I got up and ran into my bathroom because of the cold floor there which would cool me down. I intended to lay down there but when I woke up two hours later with some blood on me and elsewhere I noticed that I indeed ended on the floor but being already unconscious.
Snakes are NOT evil. The rats they eat are far more evil. They spread diseases and cause damage and are gross. Snakes eliminate rats and other pests, and they can't give us any diseases. If you learn to identify the venomous ones and avoid them you'll be fine. And remember that some non venomous snakes eat venomous ones, like king snakes that are harmless to us but will eat rattlers and cottonmouths and copperheads and corals. So if snakes scare you for some silly/religious reason, just avoid them. They won't chase you.
The problem is that a lot of people who hold the belief that all snakes are evil will kill every snake they see, either mistaking them for a venomous species or simply not caring. Snakes aren't evil, not even the venomous ones, and ironically people increase their chances of getting bitten exponentially by messing with them for any reason. If fear keeps you at a distance, that's great because it protects you and the snake. Just don't needlessly kill them.
@@ooops372 When i was a kid i had a wasp sting me on the back of my neck. I woke up laying on my back in the yard. It actually had knocked me out.
That’s definitely an intelligent comment, for sure.
It’s herp season now too!
Yes, indeed. I’m hoping I have a little time to head out, but with these hurricanes, it’s not looking like I will.
The Eastern Diamondback is my favorite too. I haven't seen one in the wild, yet.
So can I! 🤣
Leg;ess kitten! 🤣
Just found your channel...new subscriber here. .great content!
“Haha he bit me” I love it 😂
Great trip! Thanks for taking us along.
It looks like it was a nice fun trip! Other then the rainy weather, I hope you had a fun hanging with your dad.
That was an awesome trip, Michael. There’s another one coming soon. Let’s do it again.
Looking good old man! Love you guys.
That's wild, rain here kills activity. Raining snakes.
The rain kills activity here, too. Only these big rain events bring out a few water-loving species. During hurricanes, I always hope to find mud snakes and maybe a rainbow, but the rainbow snake hasn’t happened yet. I’ll cross my fingers for the next hurricane.
👍
I would say that the garter population looks healthy there. That would have been a cool observation if the Nerodia had eaten the earthworm. Perhaps it was initially just reacting to movement and then decided not to eat it after it realized what it was.
What brought me to this is that i seen one the other day while walking to my treestand, was way to close before i realized it was there and hissing my first thought was “crap im about to be hit by a rattlesnake” as i looked down machete in hand i seen that it was a pine snake and admired him for a moment. Never heard one hiss before was very cool.Gave me a good scare tho.
What park were you guys visiting in Missouri- If that’s not an invasive question I’d love to know! Missouri local and beginner herper here I loved learning from ur video !
Cool western diamondback! His color looks more washed out/ monochrome than I’m used to seeing. Gotta love all the variations. 🐍
The snake is like: how should i defend myself?
What’s the difference between a Broad banded water snake and a Midland water snake? I cannot find the answer to that question anywhere.
Nice speckled king flip. We still need a buttermilk, tried a few times, no go. 14:40 C'mon, that's just an insane road/view. Love those TX rats, such cool colors. Zach! That dude is a famous herper. Nice edit, Michael, I know this one took some time to put together with all the music, etc. 💯
